Sponsorship policy

Brands can pay for a few clearly labeled things on Mower Mentor. They can’t pay to change what a guide says. Here’s where that line sits, and how to spot anything that’s paid for.

Why we take sponsorships

Testing a repair properly takes parts, tools and time. Sponsorships help pay for that, alongside the Amazon Associates program. We don’t show display ads yet. When we start, they’ll be served by Mediavine.

They’re also the place where readers have most reason to be suspicious, so this page sets out exactly what a brand can pay for, what it can’t, and how you can tell the difference every time.

What a brand can pay for

We sell two things, each with its own rules.

An article about your product or service, written by our team to our normal standards and published on Mower Mentor. It is labeled “Sponsored by [Brand]” at the top, and you can check facts about your own product before it goes live. You don’t get approval over our opinions.

It’s never one of our repair guides, and it never ranks or recommends parts against competitors.

Your banner in the sidebar next to our guides, labeled “Advertisement”. Runs for an agreed period. The banner is the brand’s; the guide beside it is ours and doesn’t change.

Pricing: quote per brief

We price each campaign after reading your brief and send you a quote within 48 hours.

What a sponsor can’t do

These hold for every format, whatever the fee.

  • Change a guide. No sponsor can alter a diagnosis, a test result, a repair step or a part recommendation, or pay to be recommended.
  • Push out a competitor. No sponsor can have another brand’s part removed from a guide or described less favorably.
  • Approve what we write. A sponsor never sees a guide before it’s published. For a Sponsored Post only, they may check the facts about their own product, such as part numbers and specs, and nothing else.
  • Shrink the label. No sponsor can ask for a label to be made smaller, moved out of sight or left off.
  • Get paid twice for one placement. A Sponsored Post has no affiliate links to the sponsor’s products, so we never earn a sponsorship fee and a commission on the same item.

How you can tell

You should know something is paid for before you read it, not after.

  • Sponsored Posts are labeled “Sponsored by [Brand]” at the top, with the sponsor named.
  • Sidebar Display Slots are labeled “Advertisement” and look different from the guide beside them.

Who we work with

Before agreeing to anything, Aman checks the brand and what it wants to promote. We turn a sponsorship down if:

  • it isn’t relevant to people who look after their own mowers;
  • the product has an open safety recall, or failed when we tested it;
  • the brand has a record of misleading customers, or asks for anything this page rules out.

For brands
